| This costume was my very first attempt at menswear! I had never before made functional pants or anything nearly as tailored as this, so it was an exciting challange!
I bought some really great gabardine for this costume and it was used for the whole uniform. The bias tape I made out of silver silk dupioni--I didn't want that shiny plastic look that I had seen so often, and I thought silk would give the uniform a really elegant touch!
I made covered buttons for the whole costume with silver and gold dupioni silk. The color bar and star-pins are removable so that he could do different versions of Mustang's costume, since the stars and color bar change with his rank. This costume was a huge challange and a great learning experience. I am so glad I got the chance to make it, because it really broadened my work experience.
