| This costume started out as a joke because of my sister's height. At 4'11", she's constantly being teased about how short she is, just like Ed. I used a soft twill sateen for the jacket--it had the perfect weight and a great subtle sheen to it that really made it stand out.
The coat is lined entirly in a red poly-blend lining, and the back of it is embroidered with the Alchemist symbol, seen in the above reference shot. This costume was really my first attempt at something tailored, so I was pleased with how neat the lining came out.
The jacket underneath is a beautiful black gabardine, also lined in a poly-blend lining. The bias tape along the hem is thick white cotton. We used a rectangular button for the clasp and set it on two snap buttons for easy removal. The briefcase was an old tool-box we found in her boyfriend's attic. We spray-painted it with a suede-finish paint and super-glued the strapping in.
